Luqman Kunle Bakare is an Economist; with a M.Sc., B.Sc. in Economics from the prestigious University of Ibadan with specialties in Monetary and Petroleum Studies.
Luqman, a banker of great repute has over 23 years of working career spanning banking and manufacturing. Until his return to the FirstBank Group through FBN Mortgages as the BDM Abuja, he has held various management positions in different sectors including Chemtech Group, an Oil & Gas firm based in Lagos, where he was the Executive Director, Finance, Admin & IT.
His first stint with the FirstBank Group was in June 2008 when he joined as a Senior Manager and served in various capacities including Team Lead, Branch Manager and Operations. Prior to joining FirstBank, he worked with the Dangote Group as the Pioneer Treasurer at its Obajana Cement Plc. in Kogi State between 2006 and 2007.
He was also the Treasurer of Regent Bank and led the Bank with other management team into the consolidation arrangement that produced IBTC Chartered in 2005 and later Stanbic IBTC.
He led the transition and conversion of Liberty Merchant Bank to Liberty Bank when the Bank embraced universal banking and acquired commercial banking license in 2000. He was the Head of Treasury department and the ALM of the Bank.
He worked with Inland Bank as Head, Domestic Treasury and as a pioneer staff of International Trust Bank (a legacy bank of EcoBank) where he actually cut his teeth in banking (1990).
He served the Money Market Association of Nigeria in various capacities as committee head and member.
Mr. Bakare has attended various courses and trainings from renowned institutions home and abroad.
